OceanBase was the largest distributed transactional database vendor in Asia and Oceania by 2025 revenue, with a 15.5% share of the regional market, according to Omdia.

Omdia estimated the distributed transactional database market in Asia and Oceania at USD $902.4 million in 2025. It forecast the market would grow to USD $1.1 billion in 2026 and reach USD $1.8 billion by 2029, a compound annual growth rate of 19.3%.

The ranking reflects OceanBase's position in a market where companies are updating enterprise applications and managing more complex technology estates. Omdia attributed the company's performance to its position in China and its expansion elsewhere in the region.

OceanBase software is used in applications run by GCash, TNG Digital, Lalamove and Trip.com. Banks in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos are also adopting it for core system upgrades.

Regional market

Omdia said Chinese cloud providers have built strong domestic adoption, while global cloud providers are driving much of the distributed database uptake elsewhere in Asia and Oceania. OceanBase has sought to operate across that divide through a multi-cloud approach that lets customers deploy the same database across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

OceanBase delivers services across more than 240 availability zones in over 60 geographic regions. It supports six major public cloud infrastructures, including Amazon Web Services.

Worldwide, OceanBase serves more than 4,000 customers. It also has a large presence in financial technology, with more than 100 fintech customers, including over 20 e-wallets, 50 payment services and 30 fintech firms whose combined services reach more than 1.3 billion end users.

Evan Yang, Chief Executive Officer of OceanBase, said the ranking reflects demand for databases that combine performance, consistency and scalability as enterprises modernize infrastructure and adopt AI-driven tools.

AI trend

Omdia identified AI integration as an important trend in the distributed transactional database sector. The report said these systems are evolving from systems of record into platforms that help agents consume data, while suppliers are also adding AI algorithms for predictive monitoring and security.

OceanBase has been adding AI features to its database products. It recently introduced OceanBase AI Database, which it described as a portfolio designed to help enterprises manage multimodal data, provide AI agents with real-time trusted data context and reduce fragmented data architectures.

The company also cited recognition from Amazon Web Services in China, where it received an annual partner award earlier this year. The award comes as database vendors compete for enterprise workloads spread across public cloud, hybrid deployments and on-premise systems in a region with differing technology preferences and regulatory conditions.

Omdia's figures highlight the scale of that opportunity, with the regional market on course for double-digit expansion over the next several years and OceanBase currently holding the largest revenue share in Asia and Oceania.
