Mendix Connect for Workstation links cloud apps to shop floors

Fri, 14th Nov 2025

Mendix, part of Siemens, has introduced Mendix Connect for Workstation, broadening its software development platform to support manufacturers in connecting cloud-based applications directly to on-site devices.

The new solution targets key challenges faced by the manufacturing sector, including skilled labour shortages and complex system integration needs, by providing direct links between business systems and facility equipment such as barcode scanners, label printers, and industrial scales.

Operational integration

Workstation allows manufacturers to streamline productivity by enabling real-time interaction with various shop floor devices. Through this integration, organisations can manage multi-site deployments and monitor device health from a central location. The platform supports seamless connection with existing enterprise and shop floor systems, removing barriers that often hinder digital transformation projects.

The capability for real-time device dialogue is designed to reduce error rates and accelerate operational processes. Centralised management tools address common obstacles to scaling new technology across multiple facilities. Manufacturers can incorporate the solution without significant disruption to daily operations, aiming to improve both output quality and compliance with regulatory standards.

AI capabilities

The launch brings broader artificial intelligence features to Mendix's platform, including intelligent document processing and the use of natural language interfaces. By embedding generative and agentic AI within workflows, manufacturers can automate the orchestration of complex processes and support legacy system modernisation. Controls for AI governance focus on security and cost containment.

These enhancements are deployed to help manufacturers who are keen to realise benefits from AI but have not yet achieved clear operational gains. The solution incorporates natural language tools and supports integration with proprietary large language models for workforce knowledge management.

Industry need

Manufacturing companies continue to confront rising complexity in products and operations, compounded by supply chain disruptions and workforce changes. The need for resilient systems that can adapt to market volatility and regulatory requirements remains acute. By connecting business software directly to operational technology, organisations can address siloed processes and react more quickly to disruptions.

"From rising product complexity and supply chain disruptions to changing workforces and siloed legacy systems, manufacturers are being challenged today in so many ways. As the demand for real-time data and intelligent automation grows, Workstation is empowering the industry through innovation, helping our customers weather any disruption and thrive," said Koert Hagoort, Senior Vice President of Product and Technology, Mendix.
