Mphasis has received the EcoVadis Silver Medal for 2026, placing the technology company in the top 15% of more than 130,000 organisations assessed globally.

The award follows a sharp rise in Mphasis's overall sustainability score to 75 from 55 in the previous assessment period. EcoVadis rates companies across four areas: environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

The biggest gain came in the environmental category, where Mphasis scored 82 out of 100, up 34 points. Its labour and human rights score rose 21 points to 76, ethics increased 14 points to 73, and sustainable procurement improved 11 points to 67.

EcoVadis assesses companies across 200 industries and 175 countries. The Silver Medal is awarded to businesses ranked within the top 15% of those rated.

The improved result strengthens Mphasis's standing in a market where large customers and investors are increasingly scrutinising environmental, social and governance performance. Technology services groups face pressure to show measurable progress not only in their own operations but also across supplier networks spanning multiple regions.

Score details

Mphasis attributed its improved environmental score to stronger management measures, broader reporting on Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, and targets covering energy use, emissions and waste. The company has also maintained its stated aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

In labour and human rights, it highlighted workplace health and safety, employee wellbeing, and diversity and inclusion measures. It also cited ISO 45001 certification as part of that progress.

The ethics category covered anti-corruption processes, information security controls, whistleblower arrangements and internal awareness measures. In procurement, Mphasis said it had tightened supplier standards, included ESG requirements in contracts and expanded engagement programmes.

Operational data released alongside the rating shows Mphasis met 58% of its total energy requirements through renewable sources. It also achieved 100% wastewater recycling across its campuses.

Supplier oversight is another area where clients often look for evidence of process rather than policy. Mphasis said it assessed 100% of new suppliers against environmental and social criteria while managing a network of more than 5,400 active vendors.

Wider metrics

Mphasis also disclosed workforce and community figures as part of its broader sustainability reporting. Women made up 35.03% of its workforce and 35.06% of STEM roles, while employees received an average of 31.8 hours of learning and development during the year.

Beyond its direct operations, Mphasis said it invested INR 398.14 million in community development initiatives through its corporate social responsibility programmes. It also highlighted environmental projects including the planting of 100,000 trees at the Doddasagare Botanical Garden and the restoration of 70 acres of mangroves.

Another water-related project, known internally as One Billion Drops, aims to conserve 153 million litres of rainwater through 1,200 percolation wells.

Mphasis also said it aligns its reporting with the GRI Universal Standards, discloses climate performance to the Carbon Disclosure Project and tracks its work against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The company added that it is working through the Science Based Targets initiative as part of its carbon neutrality target.

Recognition from EcoVadis adds to a growing list of external sustainability benchmarks used by technology and services companies to demonstrate progress to clients, lenders and shareholders. Ratings agencies and index providers have become a prominent part of procurement and due diligence processes, particularly in cross-border contracts where buyers want comparable non-financial data.

For Mphasis, the latest score improvement may be particularly relevant as procurement standards among multinational customers increasingly extend to software, IT services and back-office suppliers, not only manufacturers. That has pushed service providers to document emissions, labour practices and supply-chain screening more consistently.

Deepa Nagraj, Senior Vice President & Global Head - ESG, Sparkle Innovation Ecosystem, and Communications, Mphasis, commented on the result.

"At Mphasis, sustainability is not a standalone initiative; it is embedded in how we run our business and create long-term value. This improvement in our score reflects the progress we've made integrating ESG into our strategy, operations, and culture. While we are encouraged by this achievement, we see it as one milestone in a much larger journey. We remain committed to reducing our environmental footprint, fostering an inclusive workplace, strengthening responsible governance, and working closely with our partners to build a more sustainable future," said Deepa Nagraj, Senior Vice President & Global Head - ESG, Sparkle Innovation Ecosystem, and Communications, Mphasis.
