Metropolis launches new .metropolis Web3 domains with Unstoppable

Wed, 22nd May 2024

Metropolis, a SocialFi ecosystem known for bringing together 400 creators and major brands, announced the launch of digital identities for its users. This initiative has been made possible through a partnership with Unstoppable Domains, a provider of digital identity solutions. Among its notable collaborators are entertainment players such as Steve Aoki, Bryan Brinkman, 3LAU, and Christian Cowan, contributing to the platform’s reach of 300 million users.

The new initiative will see the introduction of .metropolis top-level Web3 domains (TLD), a new approach aimed at facilitating seamless interaction within the Metropolis community. Besides serving as a digital identifier, these domains will enable users to participate in a variety of activities, such as metaverse questing, using 3D avatars, and engaging in SocialFi activities, all through a user-owned, branded digital identity.

Metropolis has positioned itself as a curated ecosystem that uniquely fuses commerce, real-world assets (RWAs), artificial intelligence (AI), questing, and culture. It aims to offer an immersive, 360-degree experience, providing users an aesthetic-forward, future-oriented cultural destination. The ecosystem is fully interoperable and accessible across numerous virtual and physical portals, reinforcing its ambitious vision.

The announcement further cements Metropolis' appeal, according to the company, driven by its extensive network of influential creators and brands. Household names in the Metropolis collective include Yung Gravy, Elise Swopes, Sneakerheads, Slime Sunday, Time Out, Fvckrender, and ThankYouX, among others.

One of the key benefits of the .metropolis Web3 domain is its role in reducing common transactional errors, thereby enhancing the overall user experience, the company states. Additionally, users can connect seamlessly with their Metropolis neighbours and build cohesive digital identities encompassing properties, avatars, and collectibles, all under a singular domain address.

"The new .metropolis Web3 domain is part of our continuous effort to provide the Metropolis community with user-owned digital identities that foster a sense of community, increase brand loyalty, and improve the user experience by simplifying transactions," said Sandy Carter, COO of Unstoppable Domains. "By giving users a human-readable crypto address that they truly own, it becomes much easier to show support to the Metropolis brand as ambassadors across social and Web3 platforms."

The .metropolis domain will be fully integrated with Unstoppable Domains’ extensive ecosystem of partner applications. This integration allows users to manage digital assets, send messages to fellow Web3 domain holders in applications such as Group Chat, among other functions. The partnership also aims to explore incorporating the .metropolis domain into the traditional Domain Name System (DNS) through the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), anticipated for TLD issuance in 2026. If approved, this would position .metropolis alongside established domains like .com and .org, effectively bridging Web3 and Web2 identities.

"We are thrilled by this collaboration with Unstoppable Domains, which marks a significant milestone for Metropolis users worldwide," added Rania Ajami, co-founder of Metropolis. "This brings us into a future where your digital identity empowers users with new opportunities to game, shop, and socialise across all aspects of their digi-physical lives as human beings rather than faceless numbers."

As Unstoppable Domains continues its mission to provide robust digital identity solutions, this strategic partnership with Metropolis is a crucial step towards making digital ecosystems more accessible, secure, and user-friendly. Both entities share a commitment to enhancing digital identities, thereby enriching the user experience across the Internet.
