Cover Genius has launched Agentic Embedded Protection for AI commerce platforms, designed to let AI agents offer protection during consumer purchases within chat-based transactions.

The system lets platforms present context-aware protection within conversational workflows rather than sending users to external checkout pages. It is Cover Genius's first product built specifically for agentic commerce, where AI systems move beyond answering questions to completing bookings and purchases.

Under the model, an AI agent passes transaction context to Cover Genius, which returns a protection offer with pricing and regulatory disclosures for display in the same conversation. Depending on how a platform deploys the product, protection can either be included automatically on eligible transactions or shown to the user for approval during checkout.

The product can be used across a range of consumer transactions, including travel bookings, event ticket purchases and retail orders. Policy questions can also be handled within the chat environment, while claims and post-purchase servicing are routed through XCover, its consumer-facing platform.

Trust question

The launch reflects a broader challenge for AI commerce platforms as they try to persuade consumers to let software handle spending decisions. Cover Genius cited findings from its 2026 Embedded Protection Market Research Report showing that 87% of shoppers consider potential risks before completing a purchase and 81% engage seriously when protection is offered.

The same research also highlighted limits to how much autonomy consumers want to give AI systems in financial decisions. While 78% of consumers said they were open to AI agents making bookings or purchases on their behalf, fewer than 7% said they wanted an agent to select or buy paid protection without their approval.

Instead, consumers preferred a model in which an AI agent recommends protection but the user makes the final decision, according to the company. Travel emerged as the category with the highest stated willingness to use AI assistance, with 82% of travel bookers open to AI support during bookings.

"In emerging commerce channels, building trust at checkout is critical to driving conversion," said Angus McDonald, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Cover Genius.

"Historically, protection has been the key lever that gives consumers confidence to adopt new transaction technologies. We built our agentic protection infrastructure to simplify the underlying regulatory and technical complexity of conversational commerce, allowing AI platforms to launch protection capabilities in weeks rather than quarters and deliver buying confidence at the precise moment of purchase," McDonald said.

Global reach

Cover Genius is positioning the product for consumer AI assistants, vertical commerce platforms, enterprise software providers and payment infrastructure groups. Deployment can happen either through direct integration into conversational interfaces or at the payment level for broader rollout across transactions.

Its existing infrastructure is active in more than 60 countries and all 50 US states. Cover Genius says it works with more than 200 merchant partners and has direct access to more than 50 carrier partners.

Those existing relationships are likely to matter as AI commerce platforms expand internationally and face local regulatory requirements tied to selling protection products. The new system is intended to reduce that burden by handling much of the infrastructure needed to present these offers in different markets.

Cover Genius says it has protected more than 73 million customers across 240 million policies worldwide. Gross written sales have reached USD $3.2 billion.

XCover, the company's consumer servicing and claims platform, has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot based on more than 78,000 verified global reviews, according to Cover Genius.

Cover Genius counts Klarna, Revolut, Priceline, Agoda, Booking.com, Turkish Airlines, Tongcheng Travel, eBay and Uber among the digital businesses it serves.
