Workday expands AI capabilities with Sana integration, Pipedream deal

Tue, 2nd Dec 2025

Workday has completed the acquisition of Sana and reached a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream, moves that will expand its capabilities in workplace AI, enterprise knowledge management, and connectivity with external business applications.

Sana integration

Sana develops AI-driven enterprise knowledge tools and learning platforms. The acquisition will bring these technologies into Workday's platform, aiming to provide a unified workspace for employees.

Workday plans to create an AI-powered interface that integrates organisational systems, data, and workflows. The intention is to enable employees to manage their tasks, find information and complete daily work within a single Workday environment. This approach seeks to reduce the need to switch between different applications during the workday.

“By bringing Sana's leading enterprise knowledge and learning to Workday, we're creating a single, intelligent interface that connects the systems, data, and actions employees rely on - becoming the new front door for work,” said Gerrit Kazmaier, President, Product and Technology, Workday. “We're unlocking a new era of productivity, focus, and flow across our customers' organizations with a complete AI solution for the next-generation enterprise.”

Sana's AI-driven tools include no-code agent builders and end-to-end learning platforms, which enable users to automate repetitive workflows, analyse organisational data, and offer tailored learning experiences. Sana Learn, its AI-native learning product, will be combined with Workday's learning suite to provide governance and compliance alongside AI-based content and analytics tools.

Enterprise experience

The integration of Sana with Workday will establish what the company describes as a horizontal intelligence layer across organisations. This layer aims to unify data and actions, providing employees with resources that anticipate their needs based on role, team, and ongoing projects.

Joel Hellermark, Chief Executive Officer, Sana, said: “Sana exists to build the UI for AI and bring superintelligence to work. Joining Workday means we can drastically accelerate our vision and together create a seamless way for organizations to access knowledge, automate repetitive work, and learn with agentic AI.”

Workday intends to introduce these AI-driven features next year, allowing employees to use AI agents for access to information, workflow automation, and task completion across the enterprise landscape.

Pipedream acquisition

Workday has signed an agreement to acquire Pipedream, an integration platform known for providing AI agents with access to more than 3,000 pre-built connectors. Pipedream supports integration with a wide range of business applications, including Asana, Hubspot, Jira, Recurly, and Slack.

The acquisition is intended to allow Workday’s AI agents to not only provide insights but also initiate workflows, retrieve organisational data, and execute tasks within Workday and across third-party platforms. This is expected to enhance employees’ ability to act on information securely, leveraging Workday's context and compliance frameworks.

“The ultimate promise of enterprise AI is not just insights, but action,” said Gabe Monroy, Senior Vice President, Platform, Products and Technology, Workday. “With Pipedream, AI agents will securely connect to major enterprise systems, enabling them to retrieve data and execute tasks. Workday will be the connected system for customers to plan, orchestrate, and execute work- marking a significant advancement for actionable AI.”
Platform strategy

Workday is positioning itself as an end-to-end platform for building business AI agents that can access full company context and operate across diverse systems. The acquisitions of Sana, Pipedream, and Flowise aim to enable customers to design agents with relevant context, intelligence and the ability to interact with both Workday and third-party systems.

Pipedream's active developer community is expected to play a role in rapidly expanding the range of supported applications and connectors. In combination with Flowise’s open-source community, this extends Workday’s commitment to open development practices across its AI agent platform.

Tod Sacerdoti, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Pipedream, said: “We founded Pipedream to help people work faster and with far less complexity with AI, and we're proud of the more than 5,000 customers and tens of thousands of users of Pipedream. Joining Workday allows us to bring that simplicity to more than 11,000 organizations around the world, unlocking AI-powered workflows that make work dramatically easier.”
